Four years after Kyoko abandoned her family and left for Chiang Mai, Thailand, her daughter Sayo finally comes to visit her at the guest house where she now works. There, Sayo comes into contact with kind-hearted employee Ichio, lonely young Thai boy Bie and the guest house's owner Kikuko, whose days left on earth are numbered. Sayo struggles to come to terms with the sight of her mother enjoying her existence among these complete strangers. As each character deals with personal hardships they also show sympathy for those around them. Sayo's heart gradually opens, until she's able to express her true feelings toward her mother for the first time.
