KICHIKU
- This print is rarely seen inside or outside of Japan. The film has a cult status
among horror fans and has achieved an acclaimed seldom given to debut or even
student films. The director has gone on to make many other films and his latest
NON-KO is currently travelling the festival circuit after IFFR (ROTTERDAM) 2009.

STRANGE
CIRCUS - The director's films, Suicide Circle
and Noriko's Dinner Table, has achieved a certain notoriety among festival- goers
at the Singapore International Film Festival in the past. This film might be a
prelude to more of his works travelling to Singapore in the near future.

A
SNAKE OF JUNE - A remarkable film shot on
16mm black and white, it might be seen as a departure from his infamous Tetsuo
- Iron Man when it was released. The director defines cutting edge, and this film
is a showpiece for what is lacking in today's digital films.

RAMPO
NOIR - In programming for this festival,
the name Rampo seldom strayed far from the films I have had to watch. These 3
+ 1 short films, adapted by 4 Japanese directors, are a brief introduction to
the vast number of films adapted from Rampo's novels in Japan. THE
BLIND BEAST shown in this festival is one other film. Many others remain
unscreened in Singapore.
