SFS Talkies 2007 - The Spirit of the Beehive - members only
||Filmed in 1973 towards the end of General Francisco Franco's dictatorship when it was necessary for Spanish filmmakers to cloak their political messages in allegory, Victor Erice’s acclaimed first film was simultaneously a sensitive evocation of the poignancy of childhood and, by implication, an elegy for the legacy of the Spanish Civil War. Wispy, nearly silent, poetic in its approach to narrative, this is a poignant study of innocence and beauty, of death and rebirth.
