In the third film of his planned "Men of Power" tetralogy, Sokurov turns his attention to the Japanese Emperor Hirohito (the central characters in the first two instalments, Moloch and Taurus, are Hitler and Lenin respectively).

In a recorded radio broadcast on 15 August, 1945, Emperor Hirohito, whose formal name, "Showa", means enlightened peace, addresses his subjects directly for the first time.  He commands his army and people to cease all fightings and henceforth draws World War II to a close.  The Allies swiftly occupy Japan and as the occupying forces is preparing to try the Japanese leaders and generals for war crimes, a face-to-face meeting between the Emperor and General Douglas MacArthur, the US Commander in charged of the occupation, has been set up...
