The director of Blue Valentine has delivered yet another masterpiece with The Place beyond the Pines. Luke (Ryan Gosling) is a mysterious motorcycle racer who drives out of a traveling carnival globe of death to the backstreets of Schenectady, New York (also referred to as the place beyond the pines). He desperately tries to locate Romina (Eva Mendes), a former lover who has secretly given birth to his son. In a bid to provide for his new family, Luke quits the carnival life and uses his motorcycle skills to commit a series of bank robberies. The stakes rise as Luke crosses path with Avery Cross (Bradley Cooper), an ambitious police officer. The story spans over fifteen years as the sins of the past haunt the present days lives of two high school boys wrestling with the legacy they've inherited.
